november: paris!

I am so lucky and excited to spend Thanksgiving in PARIS this year with my husband, parents, and siblings. I can't wait to take in all the architecture, gardens, art, and pastries!

I'm sure we'll have no trouble visiting all the touristy places. But I'd also love to find some little hidden away places and quiet streets and shops-- you know, the Parisians' Paris. And maybe somewhere to get good art, antiques, and fabric!

Have you been?
Do you know any hidden gems?
What should we see? Skip?

Oh, I love Paris!! I've been three times, and I never get tired of that wonderful city. Their drivers are crazy, but the people and city are amazing.

I normally stay in the 6th arrondissement, in the picturesque neighborhood of the Rue Cler. There is a lovely outdoor market there, a corner post office, and subway station nearby.

My favorite restaurant is run by Phillipe, who speaks fluent English, and has a small varied menu of delicious food. La Varangue at 27 rue Augereau. Frequented by fellow Rick Steves travelers.

Definitely spend time in the Louvre, and let us know what you think of Mona Lisa. Climb to the top of the Arc du Triomphe (sp?), where the above photo was taken. Versailles is amazing if you have a day set aside to take a trip there. We attended Mass at Notre Dame and walked along the river afterward. Oh, and the Rodin museum has amazing statues on the property, including The Thinker.

Gosh, so much to do!! Clearly I've fallen in love with the City of Lights, and I bet you will too. I can't wait to read all about your trip. Please share!!
